The Wind Gave Birth To Me: Song Cycle Poetry and Readings
Time: 2:00 pm
Join the Minnesota Vinkl, Womenperformhers, local composers as we present our new song cycle of Yiddish poems set to music by four composers. These early 20th c. poems, written by Jewish women, are in the often-neglected but rich "mameloschen", or "mother tongue" of Yiddish, and are rich, earthy and wonderful. The poems and songs are woven together with the history-rich narrative of Alison Morse. A small admission is requested at the door, but worth it! I wrote the "Muter Erd" song, and it was truly inspiring to be on the roster with the other women composers. This has been two years in the making, and it's great; come and listen for yourself. A discussion and complimentary refreshments follow the concert.
